Scope and content
A view of several rooftops of Quebec in the foreground and the St. Lawrence and mountains in the background. Katherine Jane Ellice and her husband, Edward J. Ellice Jr., secretary to Lord Durham, accompanied the Governor General of British North America on his visit to Canada in 1838. Lord Durham's suite left England April 24 on the H.M.S. "Hastings," and arrived at Quebec on May 27. Mrs. Ellice remained at Quebec until July 4, 1838.
Watercolour removed from album. This work was originally glued to a secondary support. The album page, folio 1, was cut to frame the image that was glued to its verso. Original mount and secondary support attached separately.
