Scope and content

A half-length portrait showing the woman sitting beside a table, looking out at the viewer. She is turning the page of a book.
Watermark, secondary support verso, c.l. (sideways):SMITH & ALLNUTT/1834
On the evidence of the watermark, the album was manufactured shortly after 1834. However, the final arrangement of the sketches in the album dates much later.
The inscription is in Lady Falkland's handwriting.
