Scope and content
Highly finished study of Riveaux Abbey set in an uninhabited romantic landscape. The sheep, the pencil strokes of the grass, and the architectural subject matter seem to relate it to the less finished sketches of A.E. Santagnello on P.E.I. ca. 1850.
George Jun Cuitt (1779-1854) executed engravings ca. 1824 of ruined abbeys in Yorkshire, including Riveaux Abbey. These may have influenced Santagnello.
