Scope and content

Mounted in copper locket, verso of locket copper locket under crystal, verso centre oval crystal window over brown plaited hair, centre small white copper edged plaque with monogram CDC; Col. William Claus (1765-1826); there is an inscription on the backing paper that can be seen from the front, the writing is illegible; typewritten note that came with the miniature states that he was: Son of Daniel and Ann Claus and grandson of Sir William Johnson, taken when he was 27 years old.
