Henri Beau was an employee of the Public Archives of Canada from 1915 to 1938, being employed in the Paris office specifically to copy views, portraits, etc. and to carry out iconographic research. See Pierre Lallier, Henri Beau (Musee du Quebec, 1992).
Le grand toile du même sujet dans la collection du Musée du Québec a été commandé par le gouvernment du Québec en 1902 dans le but du décorer la salle du Conseil législatif. . Il fut installé en 1903.
D'aprés Pierre Lallier, la version réduit du sujet à été offert aux Archives nationales du Canada en 1933 par le sénateur Rodolphe Lemieux (1866-1937). Lallier, Henri Beau, p.28.
