Maydoc-game-kinungee, "I hear the noise of a deer", Ojibway Chief, Michipicoten Island,.

September, 1848

Place of creation

No place, unknown, or undetermined

1 watercolour : watercolour over pencil on paper
Support: 11.400 x 13.300 cm (irregular)

Scope and content

This item was no. 81 in the Toronto City Hall Paul Kane exhibition of November 1848.
In this work the medal worn by Maydoc-game-kinungee has two left-facing profiles. This, according to Norman Willis, PAC Curator of Medals, is unusual, and may mean that the medal was American. In the oil painting based on this sketch, the medal is clearly a late George III one with only one profile.
