Series consists of seventeen drawing by French artist Emile de Girardin (1829-fl. 1864) who accompanied geologist John Evans (1812-1861) on an expedition to the Oregon Territory between 1853 and 1858. The works depict: a Colville Indian, a Colville Chief, a Pend'Oreille Indian, a Lake Indian, and Kettle Falls, all at Fort Colville; an old Medicine Man at Nanaimo, Vancouver Island; a Cayuse Indian; Champoeg Chief at Grande Ronde (Oregon); Second Chief of the Kettle Falls Indians; Shasta Chief, Shasta Warrior, Shasta Girl, Umpqua Chief, and Chief of the Marysville Indians, all at Grande Ronde; Klamath Girl, Oregon City.
