Scope and content
Series consists of a group of 3 portrait miniatures of Ellice Family members: The Right Honourable Edward Ellice (1781-1863), his son Edward Ellice Jr. (1810-1880), and the son Edward Ellice's wife, Katherine Jane Ellice (née Balfour). The latter portrait was given to her husband as a gift on the eve of their wedding anniversary. The portraits were painted by Sir William Charles Ross (1794//95-1860), a famous and prolific British miniature painter whose sitters included many figures of the English and French courts.
