Scope and content

Series is arranged within three groups of files. The first two groups, Northern Pipeline Agency and Strategico Inc. reflect Mitchell Sharp's post-political career with these organizations, while the third group, speeches, spans the entire period from 1978-1993. While the Northern Pipeline Agency files reflect his activities as Commissioner, some of these files also show his continued involvement in government and non-government related organizations. The mandate and initiatives of the Commission are documented in its annual reports, correspondence, pipeline hearings and proposals. Also of note are the files documenting his participation in the "think tank" Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies and the Trilateral Commission, as well as his service to the government as a co-commissioner on the Task Force on the Conflict of Interest and during the Pacific Salmon Treaty negotiations. The Strategico files, in particular the Foothills and the North American Institute files, illustrate Mr. Sharp's continued interest in the energy sector and foreign policy issues. Speeches and articles found in the third group cover such subjects as Canada-US relations, the federal public service, ethics and government, the Northern Pipeline Project, Trudeau and statecraft, free trade and the energy sector.
