Scope and content
Series documents Mr. Sharp's career in the private sector and the civil service. Included are a variety of subject files, correspondence, his memoirs, publications and speeches. Politics permeates this series with issues such as the West, conflict of interest guidelines, international trade, government relations with business, social policy and the public service. Correspondents found in the earlier materials from his pre-political career as a wartime public servant include the Canadian Wheat Board, United Grain Growers, James Richardson and Sons Ltd., and the Wartime Prices and Trade Board. Of note are letters to and from C.D. Howe found throughout this series. The memoir files include correspondence with publishers, editors' and readers' comments, as well as annotated manuscript copies. His speeches on such subjects as his reflections on the public service, ethics, government efficiency, Brazil, Canada's import trade, government fiscal policy and business, Canada-US trade and national identity, span his pre-political and political career.
