Biography / Administrative history

The Sioux Lookout Agency in Ontario was formed 23 June 1938 (order in council 1436-23). It brought together under one administrative unit responsibility for a number of bands previously administered by the Kenora Agency as well as the Pikangikum Band which had previously been the responsibility of the Clandeboye (Manitoba) Agency. Several bands were transferred from the jurisdiction of this agency in 1955 to form the Nakina Agency. In 1955, the Frenchmen's Head Band and Ignace amalgamated with the Lac Seul band. The Sioux Lookout Agency was amalgamated with the Sioux Lookout Educational District on 1 April 1969 (RG 10, volume 11092, file 411/1-1) to form the Sioux Lookout District.
