Scope and content
Series consists of background documents, correspondence and working papers, relating to the preparation of government estimates. Before a certain date every year, each department prepares an estimate of its proposed expenditures and transmits them to the Deputy Minister of Finance, who, after a preliminary examination, has them printed and prepared for consideration by the Treasury Board. Volumes 3644-3647 contain memoranda, copies of orders in Council, rough work sheets and statements for various years between 1822 and 1879. A single document relates to the estimates of Upper Canada for 1822. Volumes 3674-3691 contain and working papers, dealing mainly with government estimates for the period 1930-1960. Also included are some budget working papers from 1944 to 1949 used in the preparation of the budget and the budget speech.
