Scope and content

Sub-series consists of records relating to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade was the result of post-war discussions held in Geneva by the world's trading nations. The object of the GATT talks was to establish more favourable conditions for international trade. A result of these talks was the adoption of practice whereby specific countries negotiate tariff concessions with the principal supplier of a commodity. The records in this sub-series include supporting documents, agenda and minutes of meetings of the organization and of a number of its committees.
