Scope and content

Series consists of records relating to allowances to aged Indians. In 1948, a law was passed allowing Indians 70 years of age and older to apply for a monthly allowance to supplement their income. These are the applications for these allowances. They may be useful for membership research as they make reference to date of birth and in some cases, a woman's maiden name. Applications are numbered consecutively as they were received in Ottawa and are filed by province. Researchers will have to go through all files for a particular province to find a specific application or all applications from members of a particular band.
