Biography / Administrative history
Following the creation of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in 1966, agencies were joined to form larger administrative units called districts. The Shellbrook Indian Agency in Saskatchewan was established 1 January 1976 and was then designated as a district effective 1 May 1986. The Pelican Lake and Witchekan Lake Bands of the Shellbrook District were merged into the North West District effective 1 January 1990. On the same date, the Big River and Ahtakakoop Bands of the Shellbrook District, were amalgamated into the North Central District.
