Scope and content
Series consists of alphabetically arranged subject files created in the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General during the tenure of Governor General Roland Michener. Roland Michener, Governor General from 1967 to 1974, was noted for his vitality and innovation. He raised the profile of the Office by frequent state visits overseas, by extensive touring within Canada and by the creation of the Honours Secretariat (the Order of Canada was founded in 1967). The records document the range of the Governor General's activities: tours, visits, speeches, messages and the reception of official guests, including members of the Royal Family. They also include correspondence with a wide variety of Canadian organizations and associations, as well as with individual Canadians. The files pertain to many Canadian and International Associations, the arts, sports, charitable organizations, educational institutions, royal visits and tours by the Governor General as well as several files of personal correspondence.
