B 13 - Commissioners of Freight. Quebec and Lower Canada [textual record].

Place of creation

Québec (Province)

0.15 m of textual records.

Scope and content

Pursuant to the statute 28 Geo. III, cap. 2, Commissioners of Freight were appointed in 1788 to settle and recover debts to the Crown for commercial transportation on the Great Lakes during the American Revolutionary War. The account books and entrybooks of the Commissioners appear to have been submitted to the Executive Council. Why these volumes are segregated in RG 4 while other records are with the Public Accounts (see RG 1, E 15 A) is under investigation.
