Scope and content
Colonial Office 326 is composed of the Board of Trade registers and indexes for letters received and sent, and of the minutes of the Board referring both to its trade and colonial papers between 1635 and 1787. This class also includes the general registers of the colonial letters received in the Secretary of State's office between 1810 and 1849. This material is available on microfilm reel B-1626. The four volumes (45-48) of CO 326 copied by the National Archives of Canada contain the Board of Trade and Secretary of State registers of original correspondence for Newfoundland (CO 194) and Nova Scotia and Cape Breton (CO 217), from 1703 to 1758. Each volume is divided into two distinct sections: first, a register for the Board of Trade, original correspondence; second, a register for the Secretary of State, original correspondence. The following list provides the Index Room number assigned by the Public Record Office to each volume of CO 326, as well as the appropriate volumes of filed correspondence and the dates covered by the register: CO 326, vol. 45 sections 1 and 2, Room Number 8345, Years 1703-1758, Filed Correspondence CO 194, vols. 3-13, and volumes 22-23 respectively; CO 326, vol. 46, Room Number 8346, Year 1758, Filed Correspondence CO 194, volumes 14[?]; CO 326, vol. 47 sections 1 and 2, Room Number 8347 sections 1 and 2, Years 1712-1750, Filed Correspondence CO 217, vols. 1-9 and 31-32 respectively; CO 326, vol. 48 sections 1 and 2, Room Number 8348, Years 1750-1758, Filed Correspondence CO 217, vols. 10-16 and 33-34 respectively.
