The diversity of its population distinguishes Canada from most other countries. Canada's unique cultural, ethnic and linguistic mosaic is reflected in Library and Archives Canada's wide assortment of materials on and by different ethno-cultural groups. This material includes: immigration records and guides, identity files, muster rolls, travel guides, passenger lists, land grants and petitions, letters, diaries, journals, memoirs, newspapers (including ethnic titles), maps, art, photographs, music and film. Certain record collections are specifically related to particular ethno-cultural communities. For instance, the Likacheff-Ragosine-Mathers collection brings together records on immigrants from the Russian Empire; and the General Registers of Chinese Immigration lists immigrants from China arriving in Canada between 1885 and 1949.
