History of the Book in Canada

Introduction

Welcome to the History of the Book in Canada databases. Funded by a Major Collaborative Research Initiative Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, this multidisciplinary project was undertaken to publish six volumes (three in English, three in French) chronicling the history of print culture in Canada. In addition, a website of electronic resources was developed.

Unique among national book history projects, the website contains comprehensive bibliographic, geographic, and biographic data about Canada's print culture from its beginnings in the sixteenth century to the twenty-first century. The databases will be of interest to scholars in many subject areas, as well as students, teachers, librarians, archivists, and anyone curious about Canadian history.
