ARCHIVED - Comics Gallery

Elsewhere on the Beyond the Funnies site, visitors can read about Canadian comics, situating particular titles or comic-art forms and genres within the larger context of the development of Canadian graphic-narrative. Here in the "Comics Gallery," visitors can actually read some sample comics. This is a unique opportunity, since many early Canadian comics are difficult to obtain, and some are now quite rare. Moreover, many of the older comics periodicals are printed on very poor quality paper stock and are now too fragile to be handled repeatedly.

The "Comics Gallery" offers a digital selection of 10 different English- and 11 different French-Canadian comics publications from various eras. Full issues have been digitized, so that readers can encounter the comics as they first appeared years ago. Where applicable, even the original advertising has been included. Visitors can now browse these publications at their leisure, thrilling to the exciting escapades of Canada's wartime heroes or exploring other aspects of the history of Canadian comics.
